Where amateur science happens. From quantum physics, to classical mechanics, to biology, and more - there is so much science to try out. I'm going to science it and so can you.
I plan to post every couple of weeks, but if you reproduce an experiment or make a follow up video (even though that's not a thing anymore), who knows maybe I'll feature it too.

Thinking Fast and Slow Test at Thinkercon - test for psychological arousal
If you've never heard about Daniel Kahneman or his book Thinking Fast and Slow you really ought to check it out. It's all about how our brains can be fooled essentially because we're lazy at thinking. But one of the key ideas in the book is that there two modes of thinking - fast and slow. But this idea isn't just out of thin air because there is a psychological response when your turn your brain on and I wanted to test it.

But really just read the thing - I could put an amazon link but it's an old enough book you can probably find it cheaper somewhere else or just get it from your local library.

Why Too Much Salt Is Bad For Plants
Переглядів 9195 років тому
I hadn't really thought about why too much salt in the soil is bad for plants until I found a video teaching me all about the osmosis of water due to salt gradients. In this video I attempt to recreate the original demonstration with a couple of other additions - For Science! How to prove there is Iodine in Salt!
Переглядів 3,9 тис.6 років тому
Growing up I always wondered what “Iodized salt” was. After I learned that it was for nutrition reasons (Check your local Wikipedia for more on that) I still had to just believe the reality of the inclusion of trace amounts of the nutrient iodine when I read it listed on the package - but no more! I’ve finally found a cool way to perform a known test for iodine while leaving the the salt and io...
How to fold and take pictures of snowflakes + why they have 6 sides
Переглядів 3896 років тому
I don’t know where I first picked up the fact that snowflakes always form with 6 points. Maybe my parents or a teacher told me, but growing up in the mountains of Colorado I had many a chance to look closely at snowflakes and when they grow large enough it’s easy to see that snowflakes do indeed have 6 points. Imagine my shock when I was helping decorate for work and people wondered why I was s...
Why We Use High Voltage In Power Lines & some effects of it
Переглядів 15 тис.8 років тому
High voltage power lines buzz and crackle with energy (You can hear it extra well while it’s foggy) and just like a tesla coil with a high voltage on it these power lines bleed energy into the air to ground. Moreover you can measure this. You can even hear it. Link to blog: youcanscienceit.com/?p=568 Linkography: ua-cam.com/video/aw6KfXMCZEs/v-deo.html www.bsharp.org/physics/transmission www.ph...

Dark spots in the Rainbow - Red shift blue shift and seeing absorption lines
Переглядів 1,6 тис.8 років тому
Astronomy makes many claims about Doppler shift, gravitational red shift and assertions about the composition of celestial objects yet all we ever see from them is light. All of these assertions depend on the evidence of spectral lines in the light we receive. Many of us may have seen spectral emission lines in the classroom or with toy rainbow glasses but there is an additional jump from this ...
Graham's Law Actually gas transfer through an egg
Переглядів 9538 років тому
Graham’s Law is one of classic gas laws you learn about in AP or college physics but despite its apparent simplicity it’s very difficult to actually demonstrate the law. Less of a law and more like a tendency under very special circumstances. Many, many things will interfere with a gas moving according to Graham’s Law, like pressure differences, convection currents, and solubility of materials....

How everybody can measure the size of the Earth
Переглядів 3,8 тис.8 років тому
It may seem that measuring the Earth is a feat best left to the experts with modern technology. Or it may seem that measurement on such a grand scale was a great feat of the ancients far removed from our day to day world. But neither of these is true. We all live on the same planet and there really isn't anything stopping you from doing it yourself. Bells of Fraggle Rock Clip: ua-cam.com/video/...
CO2 escapes a balloon faster than helium! - when Graham's Law doesn't apply
Переглядів 3 тис.8 років тому
I thought it would be nice to do a little demonstration about the relative sizes of different atoms and molecules. Naively I thought I could demonstrate Graham’s law with the use of a few party Balloons and a couple of readily available gasses, little did I know just how deep the rabbit hole would go. Quantum polarization, Dirac notation and erasure - Quantum Basics 3 of 3
Переглядів 3,8 тис.8 років тому
Quantum mechanics is easy to test for yourself in this day and age, even down to the strangeness of quantum states. While quantum states can be very complicated there are a few examples, that despite their weirdness are simple enough to explore. What is a quantum state and how might you explore them? - well in this third installment of quantum basics I tackle just that sort of problem. Link to ...
Quantized energy levels DIY photovoltaic effect with LEDs - Quantum Basics 2 of 3
Переглядів 2,2 тис.8 років тому
Quantum physics gets it’s name from the quantization of particle energies. In quantum physics particles can only have very specific values for the energy, and they must all be multiples of ћ (h-bar) However, in every-day life these energy levels are so close together that you don’t really notice the difference. On top of that we are told that the color of light relates to this value for the ene...

What about cinnamon scent will that make them leave?
Ancient Greeks got their knowledge from the Egyptians though
how did i get here
4:23 one ant braved the cinnamon and escaped out! The other two turned back
you are so cool, you are cooler than that water bottle before your hands warmed it up
interesting, but if you want to get rid of ants - mix sugar, borax and water. soak cotton balls in the mixture and leave around ant nests and trails. and the nests will die of within days.
at 6:00 P =I^2 * R = V^2/ R , since V=I * R P110 = (110v)^2 /2 ohm P220 = (220v)^2 /2 ohm P220 = 4 * P110 whats wrong with the power consumption in this way? higher the volt, more the power loss by 4 times
pretty good
what is actually the size of the Earth? Anyone??
LOL
Wow amazing blog 💕👏
You can add a dozen different flies that will inject their own egg in the ant following the ant own pheromones into all the ants and their queen and the egg will grow and eat the fire ants from inside.
Cinnamon kills bacteria, deters snakes, rodents, insects, you name it. Put some between your toes when you get athletes foot - kills it dead and dries your feet while making them smell good.
Maybe you had some artificial sweetener because some of that stuff will kill them real fast along with some humans that are sensitive to it
Is that cinnamon or is that cayenne pepper? Have never seen cinnamon that orangie red before
Amen
What is “Alcahol”? 🐜🐜🐜🐜
There is something about powder ants dont like. Ive uses baby power to deture ants before. Please try cayanne pepper.
Interesting video. My grandfather used to put a rock on the counter in the kitchen and sprinkle black pepper randomly around it. Ants always died around it. He used to say they get confused and bump their heads on the rock lol. I think you are misusing the term "evolve", there's no evidence the cinnamon tree was ever without it's spicy aroma. It was always that way.
IF YOU LOOK CLOSE YOU CAN SEE A COUPLE ANTS GET OUT THE CIRCLE. but the camera is moved b4 u can catch it😊😊😊
Add Water, sugar and Borax! Gets rid of ants and you don't need to do all this research!
I heard coffee works too
Best use of cinnamon ever! 😂
Great info…I’m a new sub!
I pour boiling Water into the holes. After 2 times there gone
why dont you look for a job
Update on July 29: The cinnamon worked against Crazy Ants that tried to invade my house. But the leaf cutter ants that stripped all of our roses and Bugambilia plants, CINNAMON DOES NOT WORK. I saw them laughing at me, pointing their front legs and saying "Gringo idiot! Hahaha!" They just move it away. So... NOTHING has worked like the poison. Which... I just spent another $220 pesos on poison yesterday. Original comment: I have spent $13,000 pesos ($750 USD) in two years on ant poisons with zero success of getting rid of leaf cutter ants. (I posted numerous videos about it) I must find something that kills or stops the advance of these ants. I have dogs, and my wife and I are both highly sensitive to poisons and chemicals. The ants come out mainly at night and completely strip entire plants and trees in my yard and the outside ficus trees. The six trees on the south side, they completely killed them. They got stripped over a dozen times. Too much stress. They tunneled under the wall and stripped the cambium layer off the roots of a 10 foot tall, 30 year old Huisache tree, then they deposited the root cambium pieces in the filter drain trap of our unused pool. We took about 25 pounds of cambium pieces out of that filter collection drain trap which shaped like a very long bucket going down at the side of the pool. Ill try to use powdered cinnamon and report back here, as well. I'll use a link to this video in the description of my video ill do this weekend. I'll probably have to do 2 or 3 videos of the process. It's a never-ending fight, and I've lost $30,000 pesos $1,750 USD) of plants and trees. It's so disheartening. I saw someone else made a comment here that they are about to move from their home for this very reason.
SUGAR IS POISONED SON STRAIGHT FROM THE DEALER !!!! AGENDA 21 NOW YOU KNOW. I AM NOT LYING TO YOU YOUNG MAN. God bless you.
My propane torch does a pretty good work on ants. I find the nest, use a shovel to disturb and bring them out, then I burn them to a crisp queens and workers. I hate them fire ants. I also use Raid roach and ants killer does a pretty good job too.
We have big bull ants in Australia. I found several nests underground on my property. I poured petrol down into the tunnels. One tunnel took 3 liters and still not full. Several months later, those tunnels still have no ants.
Try putting about 2 tablespoons of dawn dish soap (or any concentrate dish soap) into 4 liters of water, stir it up, and pour it down the hole. The soap and water will smother their exoskeleton and they suffocate. Lots of farmers use it here in the US.
*Puts cinnamon on shopping list...*
this is great, subscribed
I wonder if I can put cinnamon powder on top of my bonsai soil. Ants are going psycho around all my trees bringing aphids
Wow !that's amazing and really helpful
You can do this with dish detergent
Oh cool. I tried this but with a compact curly bulb, it seems the longer bulbs work the best. I suppose the voltage difference at each end is greater that way.
Oh that's what it means.. I thought it's like another term like system1 and system 2🤦♂️ dumb me
Thank you. It helped a lot
The Field.... Great video... Well done... Thank You
there is a cheap product that i use i just forgot the name its in a form of a Chalk. Ants just don't cross where ever you draw a line using this white chalk. Miraculous Insecticide Chalk is the namer. It repels Ants and cockroaches, all I do is draw a line around on four table legs so they can not climb on top, or around under a counter top.
Great video. You will be missed.
Impressive! I created a barrier for the ants and their bait traps using cinnamon. Can't believe how powerful it is. Locked the ants in from their hole to the traps and stopped them from roaming further.
Thanks for pointing me to this video! Great set up!
Will try it. I saw some today in my bathroom, one or two!
Good to know
But how do you kill them all off the face of the Earth forever?. We can start with just my yard here in South Carolina I have poured gasoline on these fuckers n nothing! Just makes them angrier and more mutated
Fun reading: Ant War, by Henry David Thoreau.
Very cool. Ever try Timelapse to get more data?
The ants here have no mercy for anyone they will literally use each other as a bridge. For example, inside an anti-ant water mote for hummingbird feeders. I got so fed up I tried rubbing a Dove deodorant stick on the line it hung from & never had them infest my feeders again! I just used it 1/4 top of line so as to not interfere with the birds. (Also they're underneath an over hang so rain doesn't touch them. But, they've taken this town over. They're under everything outside & are a huge nuisance when gardening. Only thing that's helped is cinnamon, but you have to refresh every 2 days in the summer.
